Privacy policy

How ForChange Kelowna collects, uses, and protects personal information from our website, forms, contributions, and analytics.

Last updated: July 17, 2026

ForChange Kelowna (“we,” “us,” or “the committee”) is an independent, volunteer-led committee that reviews candidates for the 2026 City of Kelowna municipal election. We respect your privacy and handle personal information in accordance with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, for political contributions, the rules administered by Elections BC. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

We collect information you give us directly and information collected automatically when you use this website.

  • Contact and press inquiries. When you use a contact form, we collect your name, email address, subject, and message.
  • Candidate questionnaire. If you are a candidate and complete our questionnaire, we collect your name, responses, a headshot, and any website or social media links you provide. Your responses may be published so voters can compare candidates.
  • Contributions. When you make a contribution, we collect your name, residential address, email address, and the amount and date of your contribution, as required by Elections BC. Payments are processed by Stripe; your full payment card details are entered directly on Stripe’s systems and are not stored by us.
  • Website usage data. When you visit the site, we automatically collect analytics data through Google Analytics 4, including pages viewed, links clicked, approximate location, the website that referred you, and your device and browser type.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. GA4 sets cookies (such as _ga and _ga_<id>) and collects usage data on our behalf, with Google acting as our service provider.

GA4 uses your IP address only to estimate a general, city-level location; it does not log or store IP addresses. We do not use analytics for advertising, and we do not sell or share this data with advertisers. Activity by logged-in committee administrators is excluded from tracking so it does not affect our results.

You can control or refuse cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics on all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. To learn how Google handles data, see Google’s Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

How we use your information

  • Respond to inquiries and press requests.
  • Evaluate candidates and, where applicable, publish questionnaire responses.
  • Process contributions and meet Elections BC record-keeping and disclosure requirements.
  • Understand and improve website performance using aggregate analytics.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed with the service providers who help us operate this site, and where required by law:

  • Stripe — payment processing for contributions.
  • Google Analytics — website analytics.
  • WP Engine — website hosting; data is stored on secure servers.
  • Elections BC — under the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, contributions of $100 or more are publicly disclosed, including the contributor’s name.

Data retention

Contribution records are retained for as long as required by Elections BC. Contact and inquiry submissions are kept only as long as needed to respond and to administer the review process. Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics configuration, after which it is deleted or aggregated.

Your choices and rights

Under BC’s Personal Information Protection Act, you may request access to the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. To make a request, or to ask us to delete information we are not legally required to keep, contact us using the details below. You can also manage cookies and analytics as described in “Analytics and cookies.”

Security

This site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and payment card processing is handled by Stripe under its PCI-DSS compliance. We take reasonable steps to protect personal information, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Our site may link to external websites, including candidates’ own pages. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, so please review their policies.

Children’s privacy

This website is intended for voting-age residents and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
